Cookie Policy

No tracking cookies. Two pieces of browser storage. Here's the breakdown.

Most websites need a cookie banner because they use cookies that legally require consent. This site doesn't. We use two pieces of first-party browser storage — one for your accessibility settings, one so a phone intro doesn't replay all day — and no third-party tracking of any kind. The one thing we count is which step of our own site a visitor reached: a first-party counter that sets nothing in your browser and sends no identifier, described in our Privacy Policy. This page documents the two storage keys, because privacy laws say we should.

The short version

What we store, and why

First-party browser storage this site sets, with its type, purpose, and expiry.
NameTypePurposeExpiry
emaration.prefs.v1First-party localStorageRemembers your accessibility settings: theme (cool, professional, mission, contrast), light/dark mode, font (Inter, Atkinson, OpenDyslexic, Lora), text size, motion preference.Until you clear it or reset to defaults.
splash1_lastShownFirst-party localStorageOne date, in your own local calendar day — the last day the phone intro video played. It is how we show that intro at most once a day instead of on every visit. Home page only, phone-sized screens only, and never when your device asks for reduced motion. It holds a date and nothing else: no id, no counter, no visit history.Until you clear site data. It is overwritten, not accumulated.

That is the entire list for this site. The member portal at members.emaration.ai sets its own sign-in cookies, listed by name in our Privacy Policy. An automated test in our build checks this table against the scripts this site actually ships — if we add a third key and forget this page, the build fails.

A correction, on the record. An earlier version of this table listed only emaration.prefs.v1 and said nothing had been omitted. splash1_lastShown had been written on phone visits to the home page since the intro shipped, so that sentence was false — a completeness claim we had no way to keep. We would rather show you the correction than quietly add a row.

Third-party requests and cookies

We set no third-party cookies ourselves, and the pages you read make no external requests at all: all fonts are self-hosted from this domain (/assets/fonts/), including the OpenDyslexic and Atkinson Hyperlegible accessibility fonts, so no font provider, ad network, or analytics CDN is contacted to render a page.

There is one exception, and it only appears on the pages with a form:

Cloudflare Turnstile — the "confirm you're human" check on our sign-up and audit-request forms. Those pages load a script and an embedded frame from challenges.cloudflare.com, which is a Cloudflare domain and not ours. That embed runs in its own browser context: it is how the check works, and it is not something we can inspect from our side. Cloudflare's position is that Turnstile does not use cookies to track people across sites; we have not independently measured what the widget stores in its own frame, so we are telling you it is there rather than making a promise about its insides. Cloudflare is a sub-processor of ours either way — see the sub-processor register and Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Pages without a form do not load it. If you would rather not load it at all, email human@emaration.ai and we will take your details that way instead.

If a self-hosted font has not yet loaded, the site falls back to your system font stack; the experience is the same, just less typographically polished.

What might change

The only measurement on this site today is the first-party step counter described above. If we ever add analytics beyond it, we will use a cookieless analytics provider (such as Plausible or Fathom). If that ever changes (for example if we add behavioral analytics or advertising tracking), we will update this page and add a cookie consent banner before the change takes effect.

We will never silently add tracking to this site without updating this page first.

Controlling browser storage

You can clear, block, or limit browser storage in two ways:
